Not good at hiding emotions or keeping it at bay. They overwhelm and took control of my entire soul and mind. Feeling like I will lose my sanity anytime, I am in despair. Just one sentence of a shocking news and I feel as if I’ve jumped off the same cliff yet again.

Composition of the day~!
A Strange Encounter
I do not normally believe in anything out of the realms of science. I suppose this is probably because my father is one of the more prominent physicists of the republic. It was he who instilled in me since I was young, a strong disbelief in anything supernatural. But my beliefs turned 180 degrees during that one night that I spent camping out on St John's Island
My friends who had been staying at the bungalow before, tired to warn me that there were a lot of 'strange phenomena' going on at the bungalow. Naturally, I shrugged off all their warnings. I had a book to write and I did not want to go out far away from home, but I wanted a quiet place to finish my book. My editor had been breathing down my neck. One reason I chose St John's Island was that there was no telephone in the bungalow: My editor could not bug me.
All went well during the day. But that night, a few things began to happen. First there was a power failure. I had to work by candle light and did. It was about 1:00 am when i head a soft knock on the door. I was sure it was a soul from next door. probably he or she wanted to borrow a candle. I opened the door, but no one was there. I thought that perhaps I had been mistaken and went back to my writing. Then I heard a child whimpering. I looked about and thought the sound came from the kitchen. The knight in me was aroused and I rushed into the kitchen to take a look.
When i reached the kitchen, i realise that the sound was from outside the door. Quickly I unbolted the door and looked out. There was no one at the door, but i saw some movements behind some benches, about five metres away. I looked closer and saw quite clearly, a child standing near one of the benches. She was crying softly. '' Hello.'' I called out and started to walk towards her. She turned and looked at me. Then I saw a woman moving from my right towards the child. I was sure that she was the mother and I stopped. The woman moved to the child and then picked her up and embraced her warmly to herself. ''Hello,'' I said again and this time the women turned to look at me. She flashed a smile. Then the smile just faded away, gradually right before my eyes!
I ran forward to look for them. I looked everywhere; behind the benches and among the trees. A cold feeling gripped my heart. I decided that I had better get back to my bungalow and moved back as fast as I could. I then laid awake the whole night wondering what it was that I had stumbled into. I am sure now that this beautiful world of our contains a lot of mysteries- well beyond science.

Composition of the day~!
Composition
The darkness of the sky was overcome by the presence of the crescent-sharped moon. It was dim light ' ex-posed' many couples in the park, involved in the art of love - kissing embracing and holding hands.
In a corner, another couple was laughing and joking. I knew that i should be in bed now but whatever the two were doing was my chief concern. Christina, the girl whom I had been going steady with just a few days ago, was now laughing, joking and enjoying the company of my brother, Jason, who had stolen her heat from me. I vowed to take revenge and win the batthle for Chirstina's heart and love.
My eyes could hardly open. They were so tired, staring intently through the binoculars at Jason and Christina. I decided to go back home and gibe up my spying ''job'' when they held easch other's hands. Blood was starting to boil in my body and I was totally enraged when theit lips touched. Unable to tolerate it anymore, I ran back home with a broken heart and a mind full of sorrow and despair.
The whole night, I could'nt sleep. I was serious about revenge, whether it was unscrupulous or not, I was determined to sow the seeds of hatred between Jason and Chirstina and when they eventually break up, it would then be my harvest.
I was studying when the telephone rang. I was wondering who could possibly ring me up at six in the morning. Could it be Chirstina? My suspicion was confirmed when I picked up and heard the familiar voice. Chirstina had called to date my brother and told me to convey it to him. I promised to do so and the moment I put down the phone, a wicked smile flashed on my face. I knew the opportunity for revenge was here.
My brother went for the date, but two hours late. Chirstina was totally displeased. Jason, not realizing that it was my dirty work, argued that he was on time, in fact, five minutes earlier. The two then became involved in a very fierce quarrel and Chirstina broke off her relationship with Jason then.
When jason came back from the date looking so sad and in despair, I knew the seed of harews was sown and I could new enjoy the harvest. I started dating Chirstina and each time, she obliged. I was extremely happy, enjoying every minute of her comapny withing realising what a shameful thing I had done. However, my happiness was short-lived.
I went home one day after a date with Christina and a very enraged Jason greeted my eyes. In his hands, he held a small pocket diary. I realise it ws my diary where I kept a record of my daily activities and other special things of happenings. He must have read it and found out that I was the mastermind behidn all the trouble, causing him and Christina to break up. Very fiercely, Jason question me. However, I denied the accusations that I was behind it all, though I knew he had evidence of my misdeed. When Jason show the diary to Christina, she was even more enraged.
The next few days, Christina stopped going out with me and Jason turned his back on me too. He refused to talk to me nor have anything to do with me. I was very desperate and I slapped myself for doing such a shameful thing. I tired to extend my sincere apologies to Jason and Christina but they turned a deaf ear to my pleadings. I was totally ashamed of myself and could never forgive myself.

Introductions (Characters)
She was a beautiful child. Her eyes were as blue as a summer's sky, set deep within her heart-shaped face. Her peaches and cream complexion only served to enhance the redness of her little rosebud lips. But it was her hair that drew the most attention. It was the colour of sunshine and gold, falling in little ringlets around her face. Her name was Mary Jane, but the villagers all called her '' Goldilocks'' in admiration of her hair yet her angelic looks belied a wilful nature, for Goldilocks was a stubborn and disobedient child.

Description of Setting/ Ambiance/ Atmosphere
First example
It was a clear little cottage set beside a bubbling brook. Vines of honeysuckle framed the door and windows and the study thatched roof was a perfect match to the pin lattice windows.
The door creaked gently as Goldilocks pushed it open. She entered into a warm and cosy living room. On the far wall hung a painting of wild flowers in a glided frame. On the table in the centre of the room two white candles glowed. Around the table ere three chairs; a great bi chair, a middle-sized chair and a teeny tiny chair.
Second example
I shuddered with terror when the tow boys flashed me their sinister smiles. Grisly images of what had happened to other before me were still vividly etched in my mind. My whole body went limp when they took a step forward. A tide of desperation washed thriugh me when i realise that no help was available. I was being cornered by two ruthless boys whoese thoughts were filled with darkness and evil

Action type of Introduction
First example
Goldilocks raced past the bubbling stream and tore down the muddy trail sending insects and small animals scuttling madly for safety. The forest floor was littered with twigs, fallen branches and dead leaves. One misstep and she would be sent sprawling into the dirt.
She ducked under an outstretch branch of a sycamore tree, but caught her dress in the thorns of a bramble bush. She jerked it free and kept on running. Hot, agonising pain shot through her left side. A stitch. Goldilock's heart slammed against her ribcage in a delirium of panic.
Second example
She picked p the four packs of sleeping pills from her bedside table. Instead of crushing them and mixing them with water, she decided to take them one by one, because there was always a gap between intention and action. She wanted to feel free to turn back half way.
Third example
''No!'', shrieked Lurana, as a brass bullet streaked across her very eyes, corkscrewing towards Lex. embedding itself deep into his broad chest, Succumbing to the intense shockwaves of agony that ricocheted throughout his body, shattering every remnant ounce of will he had left within him to stand. He crumbled down onto the moss-reckoned floor, His spirit nearly purged forth from his body.

Elderly Rivalry
Lgnatius looked across at his rival. All the three nurses were around him. Something had to be done to make them look his way. With a deft 'accidental' movement he knocked the kidney dish. With a loud clatter, the utensil fell to the floor. They had to look his way now and did. He pointed with pretended helplessness at the floor. Angie rushed over with a broad smile and picked it up for him. Then they all came over. He looked acros at his rival. Their eyes met, Ignatius saw the daggers in George's eyes and smiled in triumph. He had won again! After they left, he smiled andd waved at George again. His heart glowed. Victory was sweet.
4.00PM was visiting time. He looked around at all the ancient warriors and their visitors. As usual, George and he were the only ones without visitors. He decided he would fix that. He struggled to his feet. Painfully, step by step he hobbled to the bed at the far end. Salim;s visitors would talk to him. Unlike everyone else, Salim always had visitors to spare. Not all of them could talk to Salim at the same time so some would talk to him. Of course they did. They asked about his health; his family; whether he had eaten and so on. He felt a glow of pride and looked acrossed at his rival. George could not walk; so he could not 'borrow' visitors from the other visitors from the other patients. Ignatius saw that he was pretending to read adn chuckled to himself. Obviously George was avoiding his eyes. Then he hobbled back to his bed, but not before passing George and giving him a trimohants, gloating smile. George turned away.
As usual Ignatius rose at dawn. It was a habit. Birds chirping always woke him up. He closed his eyes and prayed. He prayed that that day too he would triumph over his rival. But something was bothering him. It was something nagging; something uncomfortable; something demanding to be addressed. It was about the rivalry. He tired to push the thought away but it pushed its way back in. Suddenly, it dawned on him. All his victories were empty. The care of the staff was just drama. The enquiries by Salim's visitors was drama. They did not really care did they? Im fact no one cared about him or about George. It was all one big drama. Tears filled his eyes. He had sinned. He prayed to God for forgiveness. He decided he would put everything right later that morning; no, he would do it immediately. He looked across at George's bed. The curtains were drawn. Obviously he was sleeping. He had to wait till later after all.
He smiled at his own cleverness. He had a plan. As soon as it was bright enough, he would walk over to George's bed. He would be direct. He would smile at him. He would apologises for his hard-heartedness. George would understand and apologise in return. They would then laugh heartily over their rivalry. They would become friends. After that they would not have to worry about seeking attention from the staff or from other patient's visitors anymore. They would have each other. He wondered if George played chess. He decide he probably did. He knew George was an intellectual. Did he not read the whole day? Everything would be alright. He smiled to himself again.
Then he saw a covered cart coming stealthily into the ward. He wondered whom it was for. He saw it being pushed staight to George's bed. A feeling of emptiness gripped his heart as floods of tears streamed down his face.

Faith's eyes felt heavy, as if her lids had been glued shut while she slept. Full consciousness returned slowly and she lay perfectly still, keeping her eyes closed, frustrated by the fleeting sense that something terrible had just occurred.
why could she never seems to remember her dreams? They danced away the moment her eyes opened, remaining just beyond where she could catch them again, leaving behind only a mood or a confusing snippet. try as she would to recapture the details, they always remained lost.
High above the windblown city, a drop of falling rain was caught by an icy blast and puffed into a feathery flare of snow.
All of nineteen years old, but with a hopeless weariness that made him seem many years older.
The well-dressed men and women in the city were skilled in looking the other way when they came across a derelict bit of humanity.
image dredged up from his own troubled mind.
Answered the destitute young men still clearing the tears from his eyes.
Asked in an undisguised attempt to change the subject.
A car horn was suddenly silenced by a crunch of metal, followed by angry incomprehensible voices.(collided)
His ruddy face turned a deep shade of crimson.

Bestie No.2 's essay
(Parents)
I felt a sense of lethargy sweeping through my body, weighing me down as i opened the door that would lead me to misery. There he was again, waiting for me in the dark hall while puffing heavily. Columns of smoke engulfed me as I entered the hall. With a wild shriek of rage, fury flared in his eyes. His mouth was drawn into a stern, straight line.
I saw the blur a split second before i feel his hand colliding with my face. A moment later, warm blood seeped from my nose. When i regained conscious, I found myself locked up again. There was nothing forgiving about the room I was in. The grey concrete walls were decorated with nothing but cracks, and the room window grills reminded me of prison bars. I wondered what terrible crime I had committed to. Father had become abusive since the death of my mother. It had been years but he just could not get over it and would drink himself drunk to numb his pains. HE smoked intensively and turned violent very frequently.
Father was haggard. His unshaved beard made him look worst and he did not bother to look for a job.
Thus, I had to work part-time and night shift while attending school in the day. I kept it from him as i did not want to add to his burden. However, things did not go smoothly as he soon noticed that I was returning home late almost everyday. While he questioned me when i reached home, things would end in a very abrupt manner. He would get very frustrated and become his usual self- violent.
I could hear a swishing sound. I braced my arms, for the impact. A jolting thud struck the side of my neck. My knees buckled as I turned inside the doorway and lean against my father's body while begging for mercy. All my pleas for forgiveness fell upon deaf ears. Accusations were thrown at me like knives slicing through my heart. He was no longer the understanding and loving father. A screamed in pain as his large knuckles descended cripplingly on my head and his thick belt, which was ripped form his waist, lashed violently at my legs.
Then, I was locked up again. Rage slowly built inside my soul. I clenched my hands together and began taking frustrations out on the floor. I could no longer tolerate him. I wanted to be free. However, just as i was drifting off to sleep, I could hear the floorboards strain upstairs from my Father's weight. His gagging cough followed a moment later. I could almost visualize him bending over as he nearly coughed up his lungs from the years of heavy smoking and his destructive lifestyle. The darkness of my sleep quickly fades away and a demonic impulse took over.
The next moment, all I know was that my father was bleeding as i held tightly onto a broken bear bottle, with blood dripping from the edges. A cold fear crept inside my soul. That was the time to flee. To leave all the pain and sufferings. I was on my way to freedom, at last.

Besties's second essay
(Tolerance)
The cube-like enclosure was flled with the cacophony of paper rustlings and a series ofinaudible cries of resentment from the candidates caged within it. It was the ffinal year exam for all the third year students in Milestone Junior High.
Beads of swear slithered down my forehead, drinpping streadily onto the set of Chemistry papers right before me. I was stumped as I turned over the cover. I stared blankly at the paper which glowed in the reflection of the light. I could not recall a single thing that I had studied, much less able to apply the concepts learnt to the questions.
As i scanned through the quiet hall, hoping to find solace from the display of similar frustration and anxiety on the other candidate's faces, what caught my eyes was invigilator.
She was a frail lady with a hunched back and appeared to be moving with difficulty as she did her rounds. Her sunken cheeks, mapped with wrinkles, were pallid, and her pale pink lips were silent in the stride as she breathed heavily. She was making an arduous attempt to the teacher;s desk which stood a few metres away. As soon as she reached her desired spot, she showed signs of contentment and comfort, and gradually fwll deep asleep upon the soothing whir of the ceiling fan.
An idea struck me like a flash of lighting. Ir was the only alternative left for me to survive this grueling exam.
Silently, I shifted my chair slightly to one side and stole a surreptitious glance at the answer sheet of my friend, Shanyce, who was seated on my right. I had onlu intended to take one glance. The first attempt was successful and Shanyce was kind enough to preten oblivion. However, I could not resist the temptation. It was after the fifth or sixth glance, appalled by my presistent attempts to cheat, Shanyce's tolerance reached its limit. She called out to the drowsy examinar, and reported this dishonest act I had shamelessly done.
Angered by Shanyce's reactin, I defended myself and accused her vehemently, insisting that she was the one who had cheated instead.
The examiner, infuritaed by the whole event, reported us to the principal. In the end, both of us were banned from sitting for the rest of the examinations.
Neddless to say, Shanyce was contorted with rage and gury as she walked out from the principal's office. If she had been more tolerant, I thought such a misfortune would not hav ensued and an unjust punishment would not have meted out against her.

Besties model essay~
(Parents)
The incessant cries of the baby continued to pierce through my ears like a broken radio, strangling my nerves with its rising hubbub. I was trying very hard to focus on my revision before the start of GCE ''O'' Levels examinations. Last year, i gave the exams a miss, the most difficult decision ever made in my life. When i realized i was four month pregnant just two months before the first paper.
My parents disowned me after learning this shocking and embarassing piece of news. In their anger, they chased me out, screaming that i had humiliated them through and through. The boy whom i used to love fled from his responsibility and left me in dire straits. Forced by drastic circumstances, i attempted suicides more than once during my pregnancy term.
I quited school when a bulge started to show even under my colossal uniform that had veiled the shameful truth at the start of this ordeal. After which, i took on part time jobs to support the baby and myself after the delivery. There was nothing more disgusting than the looks of that creature only because of the deeper and more violent hatred for its father.
The howling escalated in both pitch and loudness. It became unbearable. A bolt of rage razed through my mind and convulsed me in such a way that i was losing my
sanity. Angry coursed through my veins, sending flames of heat in my chest. I was similar to a victim trapped in an inferno. Years of resentment towards m deplorable plight, and the people who were responsible for it, swirled around in me like some sort of nebulous cloud.
i gawked for the tempting blade lying beside me, my hands clenching tightly onto the handle of the glinting weapon as my patience fast wore out.
The unrelenting wailing came to a sudden halt after a sharp little whimper was heard. A sadistic smile of satisfaction crept over my face as i examined the bloody form in his death bed amid the ghostly silent environment.
